Baqaa' (Abiding)

Baqaa' بقاء means "abiding" or "permanency", and is described by the philosopher Ibn Arabi as "life with God, through God, in God, for God.... the summit of the mystical Abodes in the waiting for the Beloved." From Sad Maydan:
"... [over time] attachments will end, means will vanish, customs will be voided, limits will be broken, understandings will be eliminated, history will fade away, allusions are transient, expressions are negated, information will be wiped out, but God eternally exists, and He exists in His eternal Unity."
This was made for a special person who is celebrating his birthday today :)
Print available on RedBubble. Creation process:

Sketching, I'd gotten an interesting degree of abstraction...

... but felt a less avant-garde approach would fit the subject better.

Impossible to shoot pencil on black paper: this is the glue laid down.

Gold leaf applied and cleaned up, then the bronze dots pasted in turn.

All gilding done, time now to carefully ink the lines (using pencil references on the black paper)
